
Keeping Tiny Eyes Safe with Bathroom Heaters
When we design bathroom heating lamps, we’re juggling two things: getting the room warm and making sure the light doesn’t hurt anyone. If you’re picking out a heater for a space where babies will be, the heat isn’t actually the biggest worry. It’s the light. Standard short-wave lamps can be way too intense. They pump out visible light and UV rays that are just too harsh for a baby’s developing eyes.
The Secret is in the Glass
To fix this, we change how the light behaves. We use a special kind of quartz glass mixed with specific oxides that act like a filter. It blocks out those aggressive blue-light frequencies and pushes the energy toward long-wave infrared. The result? You get that cozy, skin-warming heat, but the light stays dim and gentle. We also tweak the filament alloy so the temperature doesn’t spike and cause a blinding glare. Now, there’s a catch. When you filter out those wavelengths to protect the eyes, you lose a tiny bit of raw heating power. It’s a small trade-off, but you’ll want to keep it in mind when you’re calculating how much wattage you need for the room.
Getting the Heat Right
It’s not just about the light, though. We wind the filaments with a lot of precision to make sure you don’t get “hot spots” on the tube. This keeps the warmth spreading evenly instead of hitting one spot too hard. One quick tip for the installation: give your housing some breathing room. Even with the filtered quartz, these things get hot. If the reflector is off or the space is too tight, you might overheat the casing—even if the light itself looks soft and safe. Leave at least a 50mm gap between the end of the tube and the housing. It’ll keep the fixture from burning out early.
