
Why Most Infrared Heaters Die Early (And How We Fixed It)
Let’s be honest: most infrared heaters aren’t built for the real world. If you put a standard unit in a place that’s damp or dusty, it’s basically a ticking time bomb. You’ll see them burn out way before they should, usually because moisture sneaks in and wrecks the electronics. That’s why we went with an IP65 rating for our electric heaters. In plain English? We built them to keep the water and gunk out of the guts of the machine.
How the protection actually works
When we say IP65, we mean the unit is tight. No dust gets in, and it can handle a direct spray of water without flinching. We do this with heavy-duty gaskets and waterproof cable glands that seal everything up tight. Here is the real problem we’re fighting: “creepage.” That’s just a fancy way of saying moisture creates a little bridge across the insulation, which leads to a short circuit. Boom. Your heater is dead. In humid shops, you get that annoying mist that settles on everything. Without a proper seal, that moisture crawls inside, eats away at the wiring, and kills the heating coil. We designed our units to handle those temperature swings so the optics stay clear and the electronics stay bone-dry.
It’s all about the long haul
Waterproofing isn’t just about stopping a catastrophic failure. It’s about the slow fade. By blocking out vapor and splashes, we stop the heating filaments from oxidizing so quickly. You don’t get that annoying dip in performance; you just get steady, reliable heat for thousands of cycles. It just works.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, there’s a trade-off. When you seal something this tight to keep water out, the unit can’t “breathe” as well. Because of that, you need to make sure your installation spot has decent airflow. Just double-check that the heater you pick matches the actual temperature of your shop floor. If you cram a high-wattage heater into a tiny, sealed space, you might cook the internal wiring. One last thing: please, follow the wiring schematic. If the cable glands are loose or you don’t torque them right, that IP65 protection disappears. And once that seal is gone, the environment will chew through that heater in no time.
