Anyone who’s ever stepped into a bathroom with a cheap infrared heater knows the feeling. You turn it on, and suddenly it’s like staring directly into the sun. It’s jarring, and if you’ve got a baby in the tub with eyes that are still developing, that kind of harsh light is a real concern. We wanted to fix that. The goal is simple: give you the heat, but lose the blinding light. Taming the light Most standard heaters use short-wave lamps. They’re fast, but they’re bright—almost aggressively so. To stop that, we tweaked the recipe. By changing the gas and the filament inside the bulb, we push the energy away from the visible light spectrum and move it toward the long-wave side. Basically, we’re making sure the energy turns into heat you can feel on your skin, not a light that hurts your eyes. Adding a layer of protection But we didn’t stop there. We added specialized quartz coatings to the tubes. Think of these as a filter that scrubs away the harshest UV and visible light before it even leaves the lamp. And for the little ones? We use frosted diffusers. Instead of having a direct line of sight to a glowing white wire, the light gets scattered. It softens everything. No more “hot spots” or glare—just a soft, warm glow. The trade-off Now, here’s the honest part. When you dial back the visible light, you lose a tiny bit of that “instant-on” punch. It might take a few seconds longer to hit full temperature. But let’s be real: in a bathroom, safety and comfort matter way more than saving three seconds. One last tip on the hardware If you’re installing these, keep an eye on your housing. If you put a high-wattage lamp into a tight plastic box with no airflow, you’re going to end up with a warped casing. It’s not pretty. If you’re going over 250W, do yourself a favor and use aluminum heat sinks. It keeps the surrounding parts cool and makes the whole setup last a lot longer.
